Welcome to the Triangle Debate League's 2020-21 season!
Below are two TDL opportunities available for March:
1. The first tournament of Semester 2!
- March 10th at 3:30pm
- Sign-ups will be available the week prior to the tournament
2. A speaker event!
What happens if you take debate outside of the chamber? How can you make the legislation you debate a reality? Join us on March 3rd at 3:30 for a presentation about how to extend your debate skills with negotiation and mediation! As a US Circuit Mediator for the US Court of Appeals 4th Circuit, Frank Laney has used the skills of negotiation and mediation to advocate, find solutions for complex problems, and to serve his community. In addition to employing these skills of advocacy himself, Frank Laney has taught mediators across the country and internationally. On March 3rd at 3:30, Mr. Laney will share a presentation discussing key skills that set apart the good negotiators from the great. You may be surprised at how relevant these skills are when debating and the head start you may have just by being aware of these skills.
The Zoom link for the event will be made available through your school's faculty sponsor/debate club leader. A short bio of Mr. Laney is included below. We hope to see you all there!
Frank C. Laney has been Circuit Mediator for the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit for 23 years, mediating in excess of 4000 cases. He is also an adjunct professor at Campbell University and North Carolina Central University Schools of Law and an ex-officio member of the NC Dispute Resolution. For the past five years he has taught mediation in Belarus and more recently in Ukraine.
