Now a student at Duke University studying Philosophy and Economics,  Victoria competed extensively in Congressional Debate in high school, winning the 2016 NSDA Senate National Championship.  Inspired by the community volunteerism of her high school debate coach, Ms. Bevard co-founded the Triangle Debate League, seeking to provide debate opportunities in the same spirit.'

Shawn Nix

A former human resources executive, Shawn pursued a lateral transfer into secondary education in 2008.  Having judged and volunteered in high school speech and debate since 2002, Ms. Nix began coaching debate at Cary Academy in 2013, where she is now Co-Director of Speech and Debate.  As one of the co-founders of the Triangle Debate League, Shawn has been instrumental in securing the indispensable support of the administration, faculty and students at Cary Academy, 

Darryl Bradshaw

With a degree in secondary history education and a finance MBA, Darryl is a decorated educator of Civics and Economics here in the heart of Research Triangle. Awarded the Beginning Teacher of the Year in 2017, he has been nominated for several national teaching and curriculum center awards. As a public educator and financial consultant, Mr. Bradshaw brings a wealth of experience to the Triangle Debate League, serving as its Durham Pubic Schools Liaison and Treasurer.

Dr. Shannon Nix

A longtime high tech executive, Dr. Nix recently earned his doctorate in international history, embarking on a second career as an educator. A longtime judge and volunteer in high school speech and debate, and the spouse of a coach and father of two competitors, Dr. Nix has seen the impact of debate on young lives.  As a co-founder and board member of the Triangle Debate League, he hopes to afford those benefits to  students who might otherwise not have the chance.

Richard Pellicciotta

Richard Pellicciotta

Board Member, Director of Social Media

A debate coach and classroom teacher for over twenty-years, Richard is currently the Co-director of Speech and Debate at Cary Academy where he also teaches Advanced Economics. He has a long record of service to the Speech and Debate community, including serving as guest editor of the Rostrum, the official publication of the National Speech and Debate Association, helping to host the 2002 National Tournament in Charlotte, chairing both the Tarheel Forensic League and the Tarheel East NSDA District; and serving on both the NSDA’s Lincoln Douglas and Public Forum Wording Committees. A former competitor in high school debate, Richard is thrilled to be part of the TDL mission to expand access to competitive speech and debate in the Triangle area.

Tej Gedela is a student at Enloe High School. As a Lincoln Douglas debater, he is ranked 3rd in the nation by the NSDA and has thus far received 7 career bids to the Tournament of Champions. As a student board member in the Triangle Debate League, Tej volunteers to coach other high school students in debate and enjoys sharing his passion for the activity.

Shannon, a junior at Cary Academy, has enjoyed public speaking since she was 5 years old. From participating in leadership-focused panels to competing in Lincoln Douglas debate, Shannon Jenkins is proud to be a founding member of the Triangle Debate League. She supports the mission as a mentor and student board observer to empower students to find their voice.

 

 

 

Adithi Sundaram

Adithi Sundaram is a senior at Cary Academy. She has been a part of the Speech and Debate team there, competing in Public Forum debate since ninth grade. She is one of the founders of the Triangle Debate League and received CA’s year end Outstanding Service Award for her efforts. As a former debate novice trainer at CA and current mentor/student board observer in the Triangle Debate League, Adithi enjoys working with other students to help them find their passion for debate just like she did.

Eric Xing is a student at Cary Academy. As a Lincoln Douglas debater, he has competed in various tournaments in the North Carolina Dogwood circuit and some tournaments on the national circuit. Most notably, he championed the Harvard Invitational in Junior Varsity Lincoln Douglas debate. As one of Cary Academy’s Triangle Debate League captains, Eric assists with the organization and logistics of Cary academy mentors. As a mentor himself, he enjoys mentoring other high school students and sharing his passion for speech and debate.
